WHY YOU WANT TO ATTEND
Are you hoping to make every coaching conversation an equity conversation, but you don’t know where to start?
In one day, you’ll gain “just enough” knowledge and skill to confidently plan for and facilitate conversations that center equity.
A Taste of Coaching for Equity provides you with:
The essential knowledge to introduce the concept of equity to your team and coaching clients–the “what”
The foundational skills to center equity in every coaching conversation–the “how”
The space to practice building relationships as you talk about identity and equity–so that you can internalize the skills
Building off of Elena Aguilar’s best-selling book, Coaching for Equity (2020), you’ll receive additional tools and resources to help you make every conversation an equity conversation.
Over the course of a day, you will:
Observe masterful demonstrations of equity-focused conversations
Practice coaching conversations that center equity
Develop a vision for what equity can look like in your work
Acquire skills to facilitate compassionate coaching conversations about identity
Strengthen your resolve to prioritize equity
This workshop builds skill and knowledge while also attending to the need to build resilience when leading for equity.
This workshop is right for you if:
You want to normalize discussing equity, race, and racism and want to feel comfortable having those conversations
You recognize some educational inequities, but you’re not sure where to start a conversation about them
You want a simple and effective process to plan equity-focused conversations that have a positive impact
📖 Move beyond the book: If you want to create equitable schools, you need to do more than just read a book. You need a community of like-minded leaders with whom you can have meaningful discussions; you need to see equity-focused conversations modeled; you need a scope and sequence for how to introduce equity at work; and you need guided practice in the skills to have equity-focused conversations. This is what you’ll get in this workshop.
⬆️ More than skill building: This workshop provides an opportunity to connect with and learn from other leaders who are committed to equity. You’ll be energized by the connections you will make in a short period of time and the camaraderie you’ll build. You’ll leave this workshop feeling confident in your abilities to center equity in every coaching conversation and to create the kinds of communities in which children thrive, and in which you’ll thrive.
✨ New: This one-day workshop provides you with “just enough” to START having meaningful equity-focused conversation and the tools you need to continue learning after the workshop.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
How to plan for an equity-focused conversation
How to strengthen relationships and increase a client’s self-awareness in a coaching conversation
What to say to compassionately and directly interrupt inequitable practices

HOW YOU'LL SPEND YOUR TIME
Self-Paced Prework [4 hours]
Your learning begins in advance of your workshop session and includes reading the Introduction and Chapters 1-4 in Coaching for Equity and engaging in a set of curated activities from The Art of Coaching Workbook. This foundational knowledge will set you up to maximize your workshop experience.
Live Learning [4 hours, two learning blocks with a one hour break in between]
Next, you’ll come together with a Bright Morning facilitator and a community of learners to process your pre-work, observe masterful coaching, engage in coaching role plays, and receive feedback to sharpen your practice. Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) participants will have the option of BIPOC affinity breakout groups.
✨ Do you want to be coached by a Bright Morning presenter?
Volunteers always share that the coaching demo is the highlight of the learning experience! If you're interested in role-playing as a coachee during a live workshop, please email [email protected], and we'll be in touch with the next steps!
